Practical Magic

Updated: Oct 26, 2018

My magical name is Chola Flor. The name I was born with is Jazmyne Acosta! Welcome to my new and improved blog/witchy space! And so, the broom is out of the closet! Since before I can remember, I was brought up and taught the magical ways of those who have come and gone before me. I remember sitting in my Nana's (grandmother) kitchen and being able to feel all of the magic she stored in the crannies of her cupboards! I remember her teaching me about why it's important to never let a broom sweep over your feet. She explained the luck that is brewed in the tamales when one hand places them in the Cazuela. She taught me the importance in having a mirror by the front door and the tradition of rice and coins on New Years Eve night! Being magical, being in touch with worlds unseen and the energies that dwell in the universe is all apart of who I am. I have always been a seeker of light in darkness, love in hate and above all peace in chaos.

My journey was unlike anything I have ever gone through. It was awakening, mind-blowing and peaceful. I remember being given so much knowledge that I finally had to take a step back and gather my thoughts. I went outside with a big mug of chamomile tea and sat down trying to collect everything in my mind and then it started to rain. I watched the rain come down, the drops all ranged in size, it was blissful. The rain picked up and then slowed down, then again it would pick up and slow right back down. Before I knew it, it was dark, 2 hours had passed and my mind felt completely free! That freedom came from doing something as simple but as extremely magical as watching the rain. Watching nature do its thing and take care of its own business. I knew right then and there exactly what I was and what my journey was preparing me for!

"There is a little witch in us all"

-Practical Magic

My favorite line, from my favorite movie. As I meet new people from the community, I realize how extremely powerful and true this statement is! There seems to be a little witch somewhere in everyone's heart, she's usually taking in the stray black cat, using her garlic to ward off evil, tossing salt over her shoulder, and all the other superstitions and beliefs that have been passed down to her. If that little witch is you, I welcome you to join my journey and learn all the little tidbits I pick up along the way! In short, I do all the hard work and you just read!

Before we proceed: YES!! I still believe in God. This journey actually surprised me because God was a really huge part in it all. I feel as though he led me to a religion and belief that worshiped and acknowledged the things that matter most to me (nature, positive energy, seeking peace for my life). No, I am not in my house cooking up recipes to bring back the dead, nor am I going into the woods naked and flying amongst the trees with the Devil (that actually sounds creepy as fuck!).  However, if you still feel very uncomfortable and not at ease, by all means, remove yourself from my blog and any social media pages you have me on. My journey is no longer meant to be shared with you.

SO! Grab the sage and put on your best black outfit! It's time we set out on this journey and welcome all that is to come!
